The Words I Needed When I Was 21
You know you’re beautiful, right? You’re beautiful despite the words you hear in your head and the words he brings home with him. You’re beautiful because you are you, even if you’re afraid to be authentically that, at the moment.
Soon you won’t be gaslighted anymore. Soon you won’t have to apologize for speaking or asking, “what’s wrong?”
You have more strength than you know and soon you will have the strength to be on your own. You’ll leave this life to build one that is yours. One that gives you butterflies of excitement. One that gives you power to make your own decisions unapologetically.
You are courageous. You are courageous because soon you will speak your whole heart truthfully and express feelings that were suppressed for so long.
There will be times where you feel like you can’t do it. Where you feel like you are a lesser version of everyone around you because of the love you thought you deserved. You’ll start to compare yourself to those you see on a 2x4 inch screen and even begin your own highlight reel. This will hurt, but you’ll find a way to let your vulnerability take the reins.
You are a leader. I can’t wait for you to realize you are not defined by your past, but by what you will do next. You’re going to inspire and teach the masses to strive for belonging rather than fitting in. To create compassion and boundaries and flow within themselves.
You are so smart. Who cares what you got on your SAT’s, you will have this “life” thing down. You will have a sturdy foundation that leads you to places you never thought you would go.
You’ll travel.
You’ll make up for lost time.
When you were trapped and broke, and brokEN.
You will live a big life.
You will be fulfilled by you and only you.
Love will not come your way for a little while so you will have to create that yourself. You will have to define what love is to you, so you can properly receive it when it comes. And oh will it come. Love will come like a wave and you’ll know. You’ll know because you’ll be floating with ease as the waves massage your body and carry you into the arms of the one. The right one.
Keep moving.
Be in tension.
Follow the fear.
